Edimax launches IoT Kiosk in Taipei Xinyi Shopping District, a hotspot visited by over 10M people

Edimax announced today that the newly designed Edimax IoT Kiosk will be launched at Xinyi Shopping District officially. This pilot project collaborated with Taipei city government provides daily applications for the general public through one-stop services station that incorporate brand new outdoor AirBox and advanced IoT technology. Meanwhile, bring forward proof of business (POB) of the smart city to create all win situations for civilians, government and enterprises. 

Busy shopping district, Smart Taipei
Taipei Xinyi business district is located between Taipei city hall and Taipei 101 MRT stations, the monthly average rider traffic of both stations reached 5.68 million in last year. The number reaches over 68 million in the entire year and become the busiest top shopping district. The five IoT Kiosks stations by Edimax are installed along the Xinyi Place where the luxury shopping malls, including Bellavita, Breeze Xinyi, ShinKong Mitsukoshi A4, A8, A9 and A11, Breeze Songgao,  Xinyi Vieshow, ATT4Fun, Breeze Nanshan and Taipei 101 are at; this is the favorite shopping hotspot for Taipei residents, and a must visit for tourists from all over the world.
  

Software, hardware and cloud exhibits innovative IoT capacity
Edimax stated that every Kiosk integrates multiple software, hardware and cloud services to satisfy five requirements of internet service, touring guide, real-time air quality, advertisement broadcasting and emergency disaster prevention system. In terms of hardware, the outdoor kiosk weighs 400 kg and is earthquake proof and windproof. It has double-sided 55”, automatic light sensing high-resolution display, USB charging station on the side to charge mobile phones for the general public. The sensitive touch panel allows people to search for shopping information at one touch. In addition, the kiosk is embedded with Edimax 802.11ac Wireless AP that covers 100m to 150m in diameter and provides free public Wi-Fi for 200 users at the same time. There is an outdoor AirBox AI-3001WE installed on top of the kiosk (Full Outdoor Air Quality Solution) to detect environmental information such as PM2.5, air quality, humidity and temperature of the shopping district, then actively update real-time air quality of such region to the public through EdiGreen cloud.

POB is the business model to go
The kiosk is costly to manufacture, so besides providing free services such as Wi-Fi hotspot and power charging, this project also showcases the integration and operation capacities of Edimax on IoT applications. This kiosk project starts to promote big data analysis for Smart City, where government encourages private enterprises to invest and submit comprehensive business model and operation plan as the evaluation requirement for POB (Proof of Business). Therefore, Edimax organized a research and development team; introduce commercial advertisements, network management, and air quality into 24/7 working AWS respectively to support the kiosk development, installation and operation costs through the business operation.  The innovative collaboration between government and private enterprises enable the government to quickly promote large scale project such as smart city. The innovative and open IoT environment is created without increasing budget and expenses while big data of city and policy implementation results are accumulated. The residents or tourists now can fully enjoy the convenience of Smart Taipei when shopping at this district, search for shopping discounts or participate in promotion events from the business district or governmental events.

Putting public first and create all win situation
Edimax plan to deploy 50 to 200 kiosks in the future, and incorporate outdoor AirBox and EdiGreen Cloud sensing system to assist residents in avoiding the air pollution hazards, while providing crucial data for policy implementation for city government.  The public information notification and emergency disaster announcement system collaborated with city government, actively notify nearby residents’ mobile devices by hotspot network, and remind residents to adopt corresponding measures or assist in evacuation, which allow the kiosk become the essential notes of disaster prevention for cities. The commercial plan of the same large public kiosk has been currently activated in Indonesia and Taiwan successfully. It is expected to promote the said plan to more large cities in the worldwide; to achieve the Smart City visions with city government through innovative technology and hence bringing much better, safer and more convenient living life for people.
