Security Notice: Regarding Security Advisories for BR-6208AC V2
Security Notice to Edimax Users:
EDIMAX Technology is dedicated to providing secure and reliable networking products. Regarding the recent security reports concerning the legacy wireless router BR-6208AC V2 (Vulnerability IDs: CVE-2024-12137 and VulDB #749421), we have completed a comprehensive assessment and would like to provide the following statement and recommendations.
Product Status: The BR-6208AC V2 has ceased production and sales for some time and has officially reached its End of Life (EOL) status. This product is no longer available in the market, and all technical support and firmware maintenance services have been discontinued. To ensure your information security, we strongly recommend the following actions:
A. Vulnerability: CVE-2024-12137 – Potential Security Risk in FTP Service
Immediate Mitigation – Disable FTP Function: Please log in to the router’s web management interface and manually disable the FTP service. This action will stop the USB file-sharing feature but will NOT affect your normal internet access, Wi-Fi connectivity, or general network usage.
Upgrade Your Equipment: As network threats continue to evolve, legacy hardware may struggle to defend against the latest security challenges. We recommend upgrading to a modern Edimax router to obtain comprehensive security protection.
B. Vulnerability: VulDB #749421 – Potential Risk in Web Management Interface
Security Risk and Response: We have confirmed potential security risks within specific components of the web management interface for this model. Due to hardware architecture limitations and the product’s EOL status, no further firmware updates or security patches will be released for this device.
Recommendation for Upgrade: Given the increasing complexity of modern cybersecurity threats, legacy hardware can no longer provide optimal protection. For your data privacy and connection quality, we strongly recommend replacing the old device and upgrading to Edimax’s latest Wi-Fi 6 series products, which support WPA3 encryption technology.
